The big data approach is to collect a large amount of data and analyze them for discovering new knowledge. It has been widely adopted in different societies or organizations to improve various processes in there. Also, IoT (internet of things) and CPS (cyber-physical system) have been attracting attention as information systems for implementing big data systems. In this lecture, we give an overview of big data and IoT / CPS and then explain the information systems that support such systems. Lastly, we learn the problems that arise when using big data.

- Toshiyuki Amagasa received B. E., M. E., and Ph. D degrees from the Department of Computer Science, Gunma University in 1994, 1996, and 1999, respectively. He is currently a full professor at the Center for Computational Sciences, University of Tsukuba. His research interests cover database systems, data mining, and database application in scientific domains. He is a senior member of IEICE and IEEE, and a member of DBSJ, IPSJ, and ACM
